Freelance Friday is a new series of weekly blog posts I’ve been meaning to do for a while! So, here’s a bit of background, what to expect, and a request for questions or topic requests:
I’ve been freelancing for a few years (after a couple more years easing into it part-time while doing my MA). I still consider myself early career, and have a ways to go to get to where I’d really like to be. But over the past while – as well as being lucky enough to have benefited from the help and wisdom of wonderful, more experienced people – I’ve also been able to answer questions or offer resources to others here and there. I think I have a not-terrible head for contracts, communication, and other such things, and that I might be able to offer something of use, especially to those in the early stages of freelancing.
So – with plenty of big disclaimers that I’m not a lawyer, and also that like many freelancers I’m learning as I go along and may have some blind spots! – I’ll be starting with a series of posts offering some thoughts on looking for work, discussing jobs with potential clients, quoting, and covering a bunch of topics and clauses you may want to consider for your own contract template (and look for in contracts you receive)…and we’ll go from there!
I’ll also do my best to wrangle up some helpful links, and I’d love to get a bit of discussion going in the comments! For now, I would like to know:
Is there anything you’d particularly like me to cover?
See you next Friday! Follow the blog if you’d like to keep up to date! 🙂
